How ResellerRatings Handles Your Data: Processor vs. Controller
At ResellerRatings, data privacy and transparency are core to how we operate. Because we work with both businesses and consumers, our role under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) depends on the stage of the review journey.
Sometimes we process data on behalf of our business clients, and other times we process it as the owner and operator of our public review community. Here’s how that breaks down.
When We Act as a Data Processor
We act as a data processor when our business clients share limited customer information — such as names, email addresses, and order references — so we can send review invitations or host a review form on their behalf.
In these situations:

The business client decides why and how that data is used (for example, to gather feedback after a purchase).

ResellerRatings processes the data only to deliver the service — sending invitations, collecting reviews, and reporting results.

We never use that customer data for unrelated marketing, profiling, or resale purposes.
This processing is entirely governed by the client’s instructions and our Data Processing Agreement (DPA).
When We Act as a Data Controller
We act as a data controller once a review is submitted and becomes part of the ResellerRatings platform.
At that point:

ResellerRatings decides how reviews are displayed, moderated, and shared across our network (including partners like Google Seller Ratings).

We apply our own policies to protect authenticity, detect abuse, and maintain a trustworthy public record of customer experiences.

We’re accountable for ensuring reviews are handled ethically, transparently, and in line with privacy and data protection laws.
