What happens to my reviews if we leave?

Great questions - here's the standard protocol.

Who Owns Your Reviews? What Happens If You Leave ResellerRatings

It’s a common question we hear from brands: “If we stop using ResellerRatings, do we still own the reviews?”

It’s also a common misconception. So let’s clear it up.

You Don’t Own the Reviews — The Reviewer Does

All reviews on ResellerRatings are user-generated content (UGC) — written and submitted by shoppers, not by your brand. When a consumer leaves a review on our platform, they retain ownership of their words, but they also grant ResellerRatings a perpetual, irrevocable, and sublicensable license to use, display, and distribute that content.

This license is granted directly to us — not to you as a merchant/store/retailer.

What You’re Licensing as a Brand

While your contract with ResellerRatings is active, your brand gets a limited license to access and use the reviews:

•View and respond to them

•Analyze sentiment and sub-benchmark performance (shipping, service, etc.)

•Export for internal business use

•Display reviews on your site using our widgets or API

This license expires when your contract ends. It’s not permanent, and it does not give your brand ownership over the content.

If your brand decides not to renew:

•All public reviews remain live on ResellerRatings.com — because the content is owned by the reviewer and licensed to us.

•You lose the ability to respond publicly or privately to new or existing reviews.

•Access to your Shopper Intelligence Dashboard, sentiment analysis, and benchmark data is paused

•Flagging review services paused (though flagging for content moderation and reporting content is always available to anyone)

•You must purge review data from any third-party platforms, dashboards, or API connections where our licensed content was fed. This includes customer service tools and analytics systems.

Scraping our site to extract reviews after contract termination is a violation of our Terms of Use, and it’s monitored and enforceable.

Reviews Still Remain Public

Even after your contract ends, your existing reviews will remain publicly visible on your ResellerRatings profile. Our platform is open — and consumers can continue to leave reviews whether or not you are under contract.

These reviews:

•Will be visible to shoppers, as well as any replies you've made that were public

•Will impact your reputation

•Will continue to be syndicated to search and shopping engines (e.g., Google, Bing) and other partners

What changes is your ability to control or interact with them.
